In 1904 each of the 280 cadets who had participated in the Battle of New Market were awarded a specially designed medal by the VMI Alumni Association. The medal was designed by world- renowned artist Sir Moses Ezekiel who had fought in the battle as a cadet in Company C. The medal is bronze and measures 2.5 inches high by 1.5 inches wide.  The name of the recipient is engraved on the reverse.
