New Cadet Oath Ceremony:
At 11 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 1, Labor Day Weekend, Gen. Peay will administer
the Cadet Oath to the rat class at the Bushong House at the New Market Battlefield, New Market, Va. At the
completion of the rats’ picnic (noon), the rat class will relocate to the town of New Market for a 2 p.m. parade down
Main Street. Following the parade, rats will return by bus to VMI by 5 p.m. and may use the “Visit with Family”
permit to leave post until 10 p.m.
On Saturday, Aug. 31, because there is no home football game, the rats will be authorized to take “Visit with Family”
permit at 2 p.m. and may remain off-post until 10 p.m. Rats must be accompanied by one of their family members as
follows: parent or guardian, grandparent, aunt, uncle, or sibling over 23 years of age.
Parents Weekend:
Parents may attend classes and the parade on Friday, Oct. 11; the weekend ends on Sunday,
Oct 13, at 8:30 p.m. Restrictions are lifted only for cadets who are in the company of an authorized adult, i.e., their
parents, official guardians, a sibling over the age of 23, host parents, or parents of another cadet. Cadets and rats
signed out on the “Parents Weekend” permit may leave the county but are not authorized to spend the night off post
and must observe the following schedule: Friday, Oct. 11 – return by midnight; Saturday, Oct. 12 – Breakfast Roll
Call (BRC) at 7 a.m., parade at 10:30 a.m., football game march-down at 1 p.m., football game, return by 1 a.m.;
Sunday, Oct. 13 – release from quarters at the 8:30 a.m. status check, return by 8:30 p.m.
Ring Figure:
The Class of 2015 will begin Ring Figure celebrations on Thursday, Nov. 21, with a class-only
supper. On Friday, Nov. 22, the Ring Presentation Ceremony, which is open to the public, will take place at 1:30 p.m.
in Cameron Hall. The Ring Figure Ball is Friday evening and is for cadets and their dates only. Ring Figure events
conclude on Saturday, Nov. 23, with a parade at 10:30 a.m. and football game against Bucknell University at 1:30
p.m. Any alcohol offense during the week of Ring Figure will forfeit a cadet’s participation in Ring Figure activities,
including the ring presentation.
Commencement Week, May 12-16:
Required ceremony and parade rehearsals commence on May 12 in preparation
for the Graduation Parade May 14, commissioning ceremony and New Market Parade May 15, and graduation May 16.
Cadets do not begin summer furlough until released by the incoming regimental commander at the graduation ceremony
on May 16.
Weekend Nov. 8-10:
Basketball and football will both compete at home. The Air Force Academy, the U.S.
Military Academy, and the Citadel will be on post for the Military Basketball Tournament, with two games each on
Friday and Saturday. Also on Saturday, football will kick off against Gardner Webb at 1 p.m., with a parade at 10:30
a.m. The basketball consolation game will begin at about 5 p.m., followed by the finals at 8 p.m. For cadets, this will
be a closed weekend until completion of the VMI basketball game on Saturday.
Corps Trip to University of Virginia:
The entire Corps will travel by bus to Charlottesville, Va., on
Saturday, Sept. 21, for the football game against the University of Virginia. Restrictions will be lifted for the
weekend, and all cadets, including rats, will be granted a weekend after the game. Rats must return to VMI by 10
p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22. All other cadets must return by 11:30 p.m. Return transportation to VMI will be provided
after the game for cadets unable to make weekend arrangements.
Governor’s Inaugural:
There is an excellent chance the VMI Corps of Cadets will march in the Governor’s
Inaugural Parade at the State Capitol in Richmond on Saturday, Jan. 18.
FTX for 4th Class Cadets:
The mandatory Fourth Class Field Training Exercise (FTX) will begin in the late
afternoon Saturday, May 10, and conclude at noon on Monday, May 12.
